I had a sleeping problem form last 4 months I consult with doctor but I find;t get any roper positive results after doctor's medications. Maybe I can't sleep due to my mattress then I decide to change my mattress just to try that if I could sleep or not. after buying a new Purple mattress it was comfortable. I tried to sleep over a new mattress it seems like I can sleep now but I can't help me out with sleeping problems.

Good morning,

I've been geting about 3 hours if sleep the last week. I wind up tossing and turning being very uncomfortable, and I never had this problem before. I've been having problems concentrating and communicating - forgetting what i was going to say or do.

I can feel my heart beat when I lie in bed and sometimes get these strong waves of heat. The last 3 days I've been feeling like I'm a walking shell of a person.

I tried working out a lot during the day to get tired, didn't work. Just cant sleep long enough. Just wanted to get it off my chest. any ideas on what to do?

Hi Larry,

I'm sorry that you have been suffering from insomnia for so long. The good news is: There is a high chance that a sleep therapy for insomnia can help you - no matter what age you are! No sleeping pills - but specific assignments each week that will improve your sleep habits, sleep environment, any contra-productive thoughts about sleep. You will also get tips about relaxing, about coping with sleepiness during the day, ruminating, and more - depending on your specific situation. It only takes 8 weeks to complete the therapy.

I’m 78 years old and have had sleep problems for more than 10 years. I’m on melatonine for the past 2 years, but it doesn’t do much. Hot milk, bubble bath, etc. don't help. Can a sleep therapy help at my age?

Dear Jim,

First of all, it is important to know that as we get older we spend less time in deep sleep and we wake up more often (see our article on sleep and aging). However, that does not mean that waking up after half and hour and not being able to get back to sleep is normal.

These kind of sleep issues often develop gradually. At first, you wake up occasionally after half an hour. When it happens more often, you start to pay attention to these awakenings; you may be worried or even scared hat it will happen again. As a consequence, it does happen more often. You're in a vicious circle…

Any medical problems that might cause you to wake up, such as problems with the bladder, should of course be ruled out. When no medical cause is found, chances are great that a behavioral treatment, such as the Somnio sleep therapy program can help to overcome your sleep problem.

Best regards,
Dr. Winni Hofman

Hello,

I am 68 years old. Every day, I wake up very suddenly about half an hour after falling asleep. I find it very difficult to get back to sleep then. Is there anything I can do so I won't wake up after half an hour?

I would be grateful for any suggestions!
Jim
